A single-elimination bracket removes a competitor after one loss. With eight entrants, the event always has three rounds and seven matches when there are no byes.
- Round 1 has 4 matches and reduces the field from 8 to 4.
- The semifinals have 2 matches and produce the finalists.
- The final is match 7 and decides the champion.
- Seeds 1 and 2 should be placed on opposite halves when seeding is used.
