How to plan a round-robin tournament

A single round robin gives every pair of competitors one match. It is fair and information-rich, but the match count grows faster than an elimination bracket.

Total matches equal n × (n − 1) ÷ 2.
An even-sized field needs n − 1 rounds when matches run in parallel.
An odd-sized field needs n rounds, with one competitor receiving a bye each round.
Publish the points and tiebreak rules before the first match.

Round-robin tournament FAQ

How many games are in a 6-player round robin?

Fifteen. The formula is 6 × 5 ÷ 2, and the schedule can be organized into five rounds of three matches.

Does everyone play everyone in a round robin?

Yes. In a single round robin, every pair meets exactly once.

What happens with an odd number of players?

One player has a bye in each round. The generator rotates the bye so the remaining players still meet once.

Can I save standings in the free preview?

No. The preview creates the schedule only. Create a live tournament to save scores and standings.
